Mike & Ike
Mike & Ike
Description
Description
Launched in 1940, the origin of the name “Mike and Ike” is subject to serious debate. Some say it came from a comic strip with the same name, others believe it was named after the Matina brothers, two of whom — circus dwarfs who actually appeared as Munchkins in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ — were named Mike and Ike. Still others claim its origin was a popular vaudeville song, or that it was linked to President Eisenhower, who had the nickname “Ike.” With its brightly colored flavor choices, ruby red packaging and the depth of the folds and creases, the image creates a bold statement.
