Razzles

Razzles

Razzles, a 2-in-1 candy, was first sold in 1966, offering a raspberry flavored hard candy that surprisingly turned into chewing gum. The company’s goal of launching the product with the flavor “razzleberry” fell through and today, Razzles offers a range of tropical fruit flavors and sour lime. As a subject for hyperrealism, the package and candies posed some challenges. While the lego-type candy discs are featured fairly large on the package, they are, in fact, quite small. Drawing the little knobs and crevices, even at the enlarged size required loose rendering so the effect would still appear real and natural. Additionally, drawing a convincing tear requires a balance between the white paper tear that is revealed and the subtle shadow it casts.

Prints

Printed from the highest resolution scans, all prints are museum quality, using the Giclee fine art process on Epson Legacy cold press (19ml), a bright white, lightly textured, acid-free, archival paper.

“Colored pencils have traditionally gotten a raw deal. Today, however, the vast range of available pencil colors, the vibrance of each pigment and ease of color blending has taken them out of the kindergarten and into the fine art world.”
