Strawberry Lollys

Strawberry Lollys

Putting aside the quirky spelling of “lollys,” Lieber’s lollipops and many of its other kosher candy varieties are found in Jewish stores and supermarkets everywhere. Drawing a hyperrealistic version of these lollipops posed several challenges: the cellophane wrapper, with subtly different tones of grey, highlighted with tints of colored reflections, is tricky to get right. Additionally, creating realistic looking folds of paper or cloth needs fairly dramatic lighting, which highlights the deep shadows and folds. The bright red pops create a bold canvas that would hopefully “pop” in any interior.

“Colored pencils have traditionally gotten a raw deal. Today, however, the vast range of available pencil colors, the vibrance of each pigment and ease of color blending has taken them out of the kindergarten and into the fine art world.”
