Zillions

Zillions

Let’s just say that Paskesz’s Zillions has a mountain of candy pieces which take a while to draw. Normally, these hyperrealistic drawings take a good 30 – 40 hours to complete; Zillions took a fair bit longer. Originating in Mako, Hungary, the Paskesz company — founded by Anshel Paskesz at the beginning of the 20th Century — has become one of the largest manufacturers of Kosher candies in the States., Drawing Zillions, with its vibrant red and green design, meant going through more than one red and green colored pencil, as the larger format eats up the oil-based pencils at a rapid rate. The thing is, once you’ve done one of the candies, you kind of know how to do the rest.

“Colored pencils have traditionally gotten a raw deal. Today, however, the vast range of available pencil colors, the vibrance of each pigment and ease of color blending has taken them out of the kindergarten and into the fine art world.”
